An associate in the Peoria office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, Robert J. Hills concentrates his practice in the area of healthcare law, with a focus on professional liability and medical malpractice defense, representing hospitals, physicians, nurses, clinics, and other healthcare institutions and providers in complex litigation. He has also represented clients in matters of corporate litigation, employment discrimination, personal injury defense and federal criminal defense.

Hills was recently named an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers, identified by his peers as one of the top young lawyers in Illinois. In addition to working on significant cases for some of the region’s largest healthcare organizations, he was appointed to serve indigent clients charged with serious crimes in the U.S District Court for the Central District of Illinois and has successfully defended a number of federal criminal cases under the Criminal Justice Act.

Outside of his law practice, Hills helped launch Generation United, a young professionals’ initiative at the Heart of Illinois United Way, serving as executive chair in its infancy. Under his leadership, GenU significantly grew its membership and reach, launching successful programs like BoardSERVE, which are still going strong to this day. He was then asked to join the board of the Heart of Illinois United Way, where he also serves on the Marketing Committee. 

Hills has provided pro bono legal representation for Prairie State Legal Services and previously served on the board of the Itoo Society. He is actively involved at Saint Sharbel Church and served as a group leader of the We Are the Church annual spiritual retreat. A member of the Abraham Lincoln Inn of Court, Illinois State Bar Association and Peoria County Bar Association, he is a past speaker at several continuing legal education seminars and a contributor to his firm’s healthcare newsletter and blog. He was also recognized as Board Member of the Year in the 2009 Thomas M. Cooley Journal of Practical and Clinical Law, a scholarly legal publication. He and his wife, Amira, have  one son, Luca. iBi
