This year’s 43rd annual Steamboat Classic takes place on Saturday, June 18th in Peoria. And now in its 23rd year, the Building Steam training program has grown to offer participants four options to suit individual skills, speeds and needs to prepare for the race.
- Building Steam: introduces (or reintroduces) running and walking fitness to the adult runner with the goal of completing the Steamboat Classic 4-Mile Race.
- Access Steam: provides an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to experience the event, pairing participants with mentors to get fit in a safe, secure environment with the goal of preparing for the 4-Mile Run/Walk or 2-Mile Run/Walk.
- Rising Steam: unites youth (both boys and girls, and their guardians) to introduce running/walking fitness with the ultimate goal of the Steamboat Classic 4-Mile Race.
- Scouting Steam: provides an opportunity for Boy Scouts to satisfy requirements for the Personal Fitness Merit Badge, with the goal of completing the Steamboat Classic 4-Mile Run/Walk.
Building Steam participants receive 11 weeks of coaching and support; running tips and tricks from experts; a Training Program shirt; entry into the Steamboat Classic race of their choice; a Steamboat Classic race shirt; and entry to the post-race Finish Line Festival. Register now at steamboatclassic.org/registration—orientation kicks off on Wednesday, April 6th! iBi
